Equality Impact Investing Learning Modules
A growing movement of social impact investors around the world is committed to advancing impact on inequality, but needs access to knowledge, tools and models to do so. We have made available a video of and materials from our inaugural action learning programme as modules that can be accessed as part of a wider set of resources developed by EIIP to support impact investors in applying equality impact investing principles, strategies and practices to their funding and investment portfolios. These Learning Modules will help deepen your understanding of the multidimensional and intersectional nature of inequality and how to use equality impact investing to address a range of inequalities.

EII Learning Module: Introduction to the Theory and Practice of Equality Impact Investing
This module is based on our foundational training course, which brings to life and supplements EIIP’s flagship report Equality Impact Investing: From Principles to Practice.
The first part of the module provides an overview of the principles and theory of change of EII and how they link to wider equality and sustainable development goals, standards and strategies. The second part of the module shows how these are applied in practice with key strategies, processes, ideas and case studies.
The original training course upon whichmodule captures and the production of these materials were made possible with support from the DCMS Inclusive Economy Unit and the Connect Fund.
EII Learning Modules
Module 1: The theory of equality impact investing - video and slides
Module 1 covers the theoretical foundations of equality impact investing, its principles and premises, key frameworks to assess inequality, how to develop an impact thesis informed by these frameworks and introduces the key EII strategies.
Module 2: The practice of equality impact investing - video and slides
Module 2 provides an overview of the market of equality impact investing and shows how equality impact investing can be applied across the investment process, providing a number of case studies and examples.

How can I use these videos and the slides?
EIIP has made these materials available as part of our broader mission to grow the field of equality impact investing. Our intention is that they’re used to strengthen the capacity of social and impact investors so they can better lever their resources towards advancing equality.
You are welcome to use these materials for your own learning or within your organisation, but we request that you credit and acknowledge EIIP if you do so. They have not been produced as trainer resources and are not suitable or appropriate as a basis for delivering open courses to others, or for commercial use. We plan to produce open source training for trainer resources in the future.
Where can I receive training on EII?
EIIP trainers can provide bespoke training for your organisation, focused on your specific needs, the issues you’re interested in addressing and funding strategies you’d like to pursue. Please get in touch with us at learning@equalityimpactinvesting.com.
We’re currently developing a system to certify future trainers who have been vetted by EIIP to offer our training. This ensures that trainers possess the knowledge and skills required to provide training on EII. EIIP-certified trainers will receiving ongoing support from us to stay up-to-date on key development in the field and will be part of a wider community of trainers, associates and consultants who are working to advance EII.

This video is of a live, virtual training which took place in March 2021. Although it’s been edited for viewing by a wider audience, it was not originally produced as an online course. What does the EII Learning Module cover?
This learning module is divided into two parts.

Module 2 provides an overview of the market of equality impact investing and shows how equality impact investing can be applied across the investment process, providing a number of case studies and examples.
The material presented emphasises strategies, tools and practices you can immediately transfer into your work practice.
What is the best way to interact with this module?
We encourage you to begin by watching Module 1 first, as it sets the foundation for Module 2. You may also want to read the executive summary of EIIP’s report alongside your viewing of the learning module. We recommend that you engage with the breakout groups and activities, by pausing the video to reflect on the questions that are being posed.
Who is this learning module for?
This module is suitable for individual impact investors and funds, private and charitable foundations, philanthropists, and infrastructure and market building organisations. The content is relevant for those working in a range of roles - senior management, strategy and policy, programme design and delivery, monitoring and evaluation, operations and non-executive boards and investment committees.
The 85 social impact investors who attended our very first training are now well underway upskilling and adding to key equality impact investing strategies. This Lookbook introduces you to this growing community of EII practitioners – who are working to tackle a range of inequalities all around the world through using and adapting the tools of impact investing to advance equality.
Who are the trainers?
The core training team and advisors bring both multi-facetted and in-depth knowledge and experience in both inequality and human rights and social investing and philanthropy. Other experts, including those with lived experience, and innovators from all these fields, also provide input to the course.
